I know Lucas emailed earlier about our historic Q1 fundraising numbers — and the fact that we once again outraised Josh Hawley’s campaign. But I wanted to take a few moments this evening to share a little more about why these numbers matter, and why we still need your help. So will you please let me explain?
The first quarter fundraising reports filed with the Federal Election Commission yesterday gave us an inside look into the dynamics of Missouri’s U.S. Senate race.
On Hawley’s side, we saw another massive transfer of money from DC-aligned groups and committees directly into Hawley’s campaign. Those transfers made up more than HALF of his reported total for the first three months of 2024.
They’ve spent BIG to make Hawley look strong since this time last year.Meanwhile, our campaign raised more than 66,000 individual donations. We had a $33 average donation and NO transfers from national insiders or DC committees. Our grassroots campaign can’t count on that type of support.
With so many vulnerable incumbents up for re-election, Missouri hasn’t been a target for the groups you’d normally see getting involved in a race like ours.
But with your support, we’ve managed to hold our own.
We’ve consistently outraised Hawley’s campaign — without a cent from corporate PACs — and forced national insiders to spend millions propping him up.
We’ve reached hundreds of thousands of Missourians with Lucas’ message on TV, online, and at events across the state. Just last week, Lucas held a town hall in St. Charles that drew out more than 150 voters!
And now, this race between Lucas and Hawley is already in a statistical tie.
We’ve made Missouri’s U.S. Senate race our best chance to flip a GOP-held Senate seat this November, but we still urgently need your help, John.
The national insiders propping up Hawley’s campaign are spending more and more every quarter. And now, with even more evidence of the growing momentum behind our record-breaking grassroots campaign, they’ll spend whatever it takes to tear down Lucas and crush the movement we’re building together.
Unlike Hawley’s campaign, we can’t rely on anyone to swoop in and save the day. We’re proud to be completely powered by real people like you — without any money from corporate PACs or Big Oil + Big Pharma execs.
But we absolutely can’t let up on our campaign’s historic momentum now.
If we want to elect Lucas and win this race, there’s a lot of work ahead of us. From fighting back against the inevitable onslaught of attacks Hawley’s posse will throw at Lucas to reserving TV ad time and planning tours across the state — your support is what makes all that possible for our grassroots campaign.
