Today is the one year anniversary of the House passing the Violence Against Women Act reauthorization.

This important piece of legislation protects victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking — and aims to keep guns out of the hands of abusers.

Unfortunately, since it passed the House, this bill has not been taken up in the Senate by Mitch McConnell and his majority. There is no justifiable reason for this.

The reauthorization of this bill is crucial. It includes key actions to close the “boyfriend loophole” which aims to prohibit access to firearms by anyone convicted of domestic violence — not just those who are married to their victim.

Giffords stands by women and the survivors of domestic violence. If you do too, will you add your name and demand the Senate take action?

We’re doing everything we can to make this country safer from gun violence. Some of the most vulnerable victims of gun violence are survivors of domestic abuse — and there’s no reason why abusers should have access to guns.

Mitch McConnell needs to urge the Senate to pass this bill, and keep guns out of the hands of abusers.
