John, le t’s talk about what a six week abortion ban really is.
Because of the way pregnancy is dated, a woman is four weeks pregnant by the time she misses her period. That means that if a woman has a perfectly predictable cycle that she is actively tracking, the best case scenario is that she has two weeks to make a decision and book an appointment.
Anyone with a period knows that the best case scenario is extremely unlikely. Periods can be irregular for COUNTLESS reasons. At six weeks, most women have no idea that they’re even pregnant.
When Florida’s six week ban goes into effect in May, a mammoth health crisis will befall us. Women and girls will suffer. It’s cruelty and chaos, and it doesn’t have to be this way.
