Next week, we'll be in New York and Washington, DC alongside Olivia Bisa, the first woman president of the Chapra Nation in the Peruvian Amazon. Olivia has emerged as a powerful voice among Amazonian leaders, steadfastly resisting oil company Petroperú’s relentless attempts to drill and expand operations in the rainforest and along the coast. Even in the face of death threats, she remains resolute – fighting for her people, for the rainforest, and for our collective future.

Will you make a special Earth Day donation to support Olivia and other Earth Defenders of the Amazon? Thanks to generous supporters, all donations will be matched up to $100,000 through April 30 to advance Indigenous solutions for a healthy rainforest and sustainable future.

*** Add a note for Olivia Bisa when you donate and we’ll share your message of support with her!

Olivia and other representatives from Amazonian and coastal communities are coming to New York and DC to confront Citibank and JPMorgan Chase, which are both considering funding Petroperú. For over two decades, we’ve worked with the Achuar, Wampis, and Chapra peoples in their tireless efforts to expel five different oil companies from their territories. Our collective actions have exhausted all of Petroperú’s other financing options. Now, Indigenous and coastal peoples are ensuring that the company’s last-ditch attempt to get funding is shut down. And you can join them.

This is how we join Indigenous people in saying no to oil and yes to life. Olivia recently told our team: "There is a motto in my nation: 'For my land I live, and for my land I will die.' I exist thanks to my land, I survive thanks to my land, and I am where I am thanks to my land. And this does not have a price.”

Please consider a donation today, which will be doubled to amplify Olivia and other Amazonian leaders who are building a future where Indigenous rights and the rights of nature are respected for generations to come. Thank you!

For the Amazon,

Leila Salazar-López
Executive Director

P.S. When you donate, add a note for Olivia sharing your support and where you’re from, and we’ll share it with her next week in New York!
