Dear John,

It has been an energizing and inspiring first two weeks at FairVote. Thank you for the warm welcome! Our work has the potential to empower voters and make government work better for all Americans across the nation – and 2024 is a pivotal year for our continued success. 

Ranked choice voting will be used for presidential elections in Alaska and Maine, and could be on the ballot in as many as four more states plus the District of Columbia. RCV is already the fastest-growing voting reform in the nation. This November could be the largest expansion of this reform in its history. 

As we work toward these unprecedented opportunities, I want to meet and learn from you, and I invite you to join us at the FairVote Awards on June 3 in New York City! At the Awards, we will celebrate four champions who have helped bring us to this crucial point: 

• Rashad Robinson and Eric Liu, two inspiring leaders in the civil engagement and democracy space making meaningful change, and
• Cynthia Richie Terrell and Rob Richie, two of our co-founders and longtime leaders. We can’t wait to honor Rob and Cynthia’s 32 years of service to the ranked choice voting movement – and their critical, ongoing work with FairVote and RepresentWomen.  

We will also share exclusive new insights into the future of FairVote’s work and recognize the contributions of partners as we unveil our next multi-year strategic plan. Our vision is rooted in the pillars of building momentum for RCV in priority cities and states, winning RCV legislation and ballot measures, and sustaining support for those wins over the long run. This requires balancing short-term wins to maintain our momentum with long-term gains necessary for our movement to have staying power – and deliver on its promises of a less toxic politics and better representation and government for all.

I’m excited to share that we have new ticket and sponsorship options available, making this event more accessible to partners and supporters as well as new allies in our work. You can find all of these details, and more information on our honorees, on our website.

The FairVote team and I can’t wait to celebrate our movement together with all of you who make this work possible. I leave you with a few photos of FairVote’s strategy planning summit this month, where we met with partners and discussed new ways to build on ranked choice voting’s recent wins and incredible momentum.
