Trump just rolled back climate pollution limits on cars and trucks.
John,
Right now, the Trump administration should be laser-focused on fighting the global pandemic.
Instead, it just announced it will roll back pollution limits on cars and trucks — and pump a billion more tons of climate-warming carbon dioxide into the atmosphere while exposing vulnerable communities to health-threatening toxic emissions.
Honestly, at a time when most Americans are desperately trying to stay healthy and pay their monthly bills, we can’t believe we have to protest this nonsense. But Trump and his administration just can’t help themselves.
Under Trump’s new rule, cars and trucks will be a third as fuel-efficient, spewing millions of tons more globe-warming pollution into the air. They’ll create more smog and soot-forming emissions. And they’ll force Americans to buy more gasoline.
This awful new rule doesn’t even help U.S. automakers: It will make it harder for them to compete in overseas markets where governments are actually trying to mitigate the climate crisis.
But Americans support the current efficiency standards by wide margins, so we’re mobilizing to demand that Trump backs off his dangerous new rule.
Right now, Donald Trump should be fighting the coronavirus, not undoing common-sense standards to curb greenhouse gas pollution and protect public health.
