Congress and the Constitution

How did the Founders envision the way the legislative branch of our country’s new government would operate? The answer to this crucial question is found in the Bill of Rights Institute’s Congress and the Constitution curriculum.

Using the lessons and primary sources within this curriculum, students will examine multiple topics. Including the purpose of a legislature, how the U.S. Congress and its powers are designed, the history of Congress, and how it currently operates. Students can also participate in an interactive model Congress project! They will serve as legislators and experience the challenge of making a bill become a law.

Sign Up For This Civics Focus Group

Help provide important feedback for this year’s National Civics Bee! Sign up for a virtual focus group held by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The deadline to register is Wednesday, May 1, and teachers with experience working with middle school students or students from urban, rural, or low-income communities are encouraged to sign up.

The deadline is approaching for students to submit their MyImpact Challenge entries! Submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. PT on Sunday, May 19. Students can submit a charitable, entrepreneurial, or community service project for consideration.

Have Your Students Think The Vote!

Our new Think The Vote question takes another look at TikTok. The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to force ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, to sell the social media platform to a buyer that is not connected with the Chinese government.

Supporters of the bill claim it addresses a legitimate security issue and allege that China represents the United States’ biggest national security threat. However, critics argue concerns over China’s government controlling the app are unfounded. They also claim because TikTok’s data is partially stored in the United States, the government can’t access it.

Should the United States government force a sale of TikTok? Students can share their responses to this Think The Vote question until Thursday, April 25.

Meet Brittany Knauer!

Becoming a teacher was originally not in Brittany Knauer’s plans, and she made sure her Mom knew it.

“For years, my mom told me I should teach, and my answer was always no,” Knauer said. However, she soon had a change of heart and switched from pursuing a criminal justice degree to a degree in education.
