John - I wanted to send you this note since you have strongly supported the Republican party and my campaigns over the years.
In November, I will step down as Republican Senate leader and allow a new generation of leaders to come forward.
Serving Kentucky in the Senate has been the honor of my life. To lead my Republican colleagues has been my highest privilege.
But let me be very clear.
I still have enough gas in the tank to disappoint my critics thoroughly, and I intend to do so with all the enthusiasm to which they have become accustomed.
