Even as his dithering enabled a pandemic that threatens the lives of seniors, Trump’s campaign hasn’t slowed its Facebook ad spending targeting seniors. These ads are frequently racist, xenophobic, misleading, and in many cases outright lies. But this is where Trump is hanging his reelection chances.

He believes that if he can play on people’s fears and rally a traditionally reliable voting demographic, he’ll win this November.

The COVID-19 pandemic is changing public opinion rapidly. Medicare for All has gotten dramatically more popular. And a national movement to enact Vote by Mail has gained steam.

Instead, Politico reports that Trump is settling on a more insidious reform: Vote by Mail, but only for seniors.

Republicans are being clear: If you won’t vote for Republicans, they don’t want you to be able to vote at all. Trump himself said that if states mailed every eligible voter an absentee ballot form, “you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.”

Trump wants to divide this country between young and old; between white people and people of color; or divide us over cultural and religious lines. But this division is a distraction as millionaires and billionaires loot everything in our country that isn’t nailed down.

That’s why Trump has pushed for cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid every year of his Presidency, and why his administration tried to cut seniors out of their $1200 stimulus checks. Then he blames immigrants, China or Democrats for the policies he proposed!

At a time of financial insecurity with millions losing their jobs and the stock market crashing, we need to rally ALL voters around the only reliable form of retirement security: Protecting and expanding Social Security!
