Friend,
Step back into the schoolyard of your memories. Do you feel the heat rising from the asphalt as you play under the blazing sun? It's probably been some years (or maybe a few decades) since you spent recess dripping sweat on the school playground, but the memories can be as vivid as when you were young.
With climate change worsening, extreme heat during recess is a growing threat, especially for the 1 in 3 kids attending school where it’s 1.25 degrees Fahrenheit warmer or more than the surrounding town or city, or what we refer to as heat islands.
What if those barren, scorching spaces could be transformed into vibrant scenes with shaded areas, lush gardens, and play spaces that bring joy to children? That's exactly what we're working towards. This Earth Month, and every day, TPL's Community Schoolyards® programs continue to provide kids and entire communities with the Mother Nature-approved play spaces they both want and need.
And here's the exciting news: right now your support of Community Schoolyards® programs and all of TPL’s work will be doubled! That’s right, thanks to a generous match in honor of Earth Day, your gift will have double the impact, up to $250k, until April 22.
