The Week Ahead

On October 7, America stood with Israel as Hamas killed innocent individuals and families, creating the bloodiest day for the Jewish people since World War II. America continues to stand with Israel as it defends itself against unjustified missiles and drones from Iran’s terrorist regime. President Biden's weakness on the world stage has emboldened our adversaries like Iran.

This week, House Republicans will consider legislation that will show the world our resolve to support Israel as it fights to protect itself. I stand with Israel and its right to defend itself, and I will always fight to hold our adversaries accountable.

Mann Listening Tour Next Week

Next Wednesday, I am hosting five town halls as part of my annual 60-county Mann Listening Tour. Since I've been in Congress, I've hosted 160 town halls. I value every opportunity I have to meet with you and get my marching orders for my time in Congress.

Deadline Approaching: 2024 Congressional Art Competition

2023 Congressional Art Competition winner from the Big First District.

"Home" by Katherine Price, Lawrence High School, Lawrence, KS

My office is accepting submissions for this year's Congressional Art Competition. Each spring, the U.S. House of Representatives hosts a nationwide high school arts competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and the Big First District. This year, my office's theme is - Kansas, There's No Place Like Home.

The contest is open to all high school students in the Big First District. The winning artwork for our district will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. Students may submit one piece of art. All artwork must be delivered to my Manhattan or Dodge City office, or received by one of my staff members by this Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

Blocking President Biden's War on American Energy

Americans don’t need more government overreach to threaten their livelihoods and drive up energy costs. I am proud to lead my colleagues in introducing a joint resolution to disapprove of the Biden Administration’s new methane rule which forces energy producers to comply with overzealous, costly monitoring and reporting standards.

Make no mistake: President Biden’s policy will crush energy producers and consumers alike.

I will always fight against President Biden’s war on American energy producers and burdensome red-tape that compromises our economy, energy independence, and national security.

Safeguarding Churches and Charity Organizations

Churches, schools, charities, and other civic organizations are pivotal parts of our communities in the Big First. A recent judicial decision proposes the elimination of the tax-exempt status of charitable organizations. This action would be detrimental to the services they provide to people. Congress needs to protect our charitable organizations from being targeted by the federal government, which is why I cosponsor H.R. 7027, the Safeguarding Charity Act. The legislation protects tax-exempt organizations from this detrimental ruling and ensures that they can continue their vital work in our communities.

Supporting Our Nation's Heroes, Preventing Veteran Sucide

In America, we support the brave men and women who defend our freedoms in the armed forces, and that support should not stop once they take off their uniforms. As a former member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee and the representative for more than 35,000 in the Big First District, I am proud to cosponsor H.R. 4157, the Not Just a Number Act, which enhances the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs ability to effectively prevent suicide and promotes delivering those resources to the individuals who need them most.

Kansans in the Office

National Pork Producers Council

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) advocates for American pork producers, fights for reasonable public policy, defends the freedom to operate, and works to expand access to global markets. I appreciated catching up with NPPC's USA Commercial Director, and fellow K-State alumni, Hyatt Frobose, last week. As the Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry, I value NPPC's insight on the issues currently facing our pork producers, like arbitrary housing guidelines or restrictions on global markets. I will always fight to eliminate overreaching policies burdening our American agricultural producers.

Schwan's Company

Schwan’s Company understands that creating jobs, growing the local economy, and feeding people is the perfect combination for community success. Last year, I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Schwan’s Pizza Plant in Salina, and last week, I had the chance to catch up with Schwan's Vice President, Alan Poff, while he was in Washington, D.C. I appreciated his update about the new facility in Salina, and I’m grateful to have Schwan's in the Big First District. The company’s investment in the Salina community will last for decades to come.

Crop Insurance and Reinsurance Bureau

Agriculture is a risky business, and as a member of the House Agriculture Committee, one of my top priorities is ensuring that agricultural producers have a strong safety net. We need strong crop insurance policies so that producers can survive a bad crop year and our nation's food security is never at risk. The Crop Insurance and Reinsurance Bureau (CIRB) plays an important role as an advocate for agricultural producers, and it works to keep crop insurance affordable. Thank you, CIRB, for the support you give to our agricultural producers and for meeting with me.

Kansas Association of Insurance Agents

The Kansas Association of Insurance Agents (KAIA) supports more than 500 independent insurance agencies in every Kansas county. I am proud to support H.R. 4721, the Main Street Tax Certainty Act, which would codify the small business deduction passed in the 2017 Tax Cuts & Jobs Act. As a member of the House Small Business Committee, I will always fight to eliminate unnecessary taxes and support legislation that keeps Kansans in control of their businesses.

Kansas Natural Resources Coalition

The Kansas Natural Resources Coalition (KNRC) is an association of counties that advocates for the limited role of executive branch agencies with environmental and natural resource rulemaking. During our meeting, we discussed the recent letter that I sent to the EPA urging them to withdraw a proposed rule impacting meat and poultry processing and rendering facilities. This costly and technically complex proposed rule would burden hundreds of meat, poultry, and rendering facilities with unnecessary red tape. Under the rule, many of these facilities, which play an essential role in our communities and the larger food supply chain, may be forced out of business. Thank you, KNRC, for the work you're doing to represent rural communities and eliminate red-tape policies like this proposed rule.

Kansas Bank Commissioner, David Herndon

To sustain and grow communities in the Big First, especially our rural communities, we need a strong financial services industry. It was a pleasure meeting with Kansas Bank Commissioner David Herndon and Deputy Commissioner Tim Kemp to hear about their office’s efforts to ensure the integrity of our banking and financial services sector in the Big First. Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities

The Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities (KCDD) serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through advocacy, public policy, and education. KCDD’s work is enriching the lives of Kansans in the Big First and across the state, like Lola and Whit, who met with me and talked about the work that they’re doing as advocates and how KCDD has impacted their lives. Thank you for taking the time to visit our nation’s capital and to meet with me.
