Indivisibles,

The first (but not only) criminal trial for Donald Trump began today in
New York.

For those keeping track, this trial concerns his [ [link removed] ]34 felony charges for
falsifying business records in his attempt to cover up his affair with
Stormy Daniels. Trump will be judged by a jury of his peers in this case,
so the first step beyond preliminary motions from both sides will be jury
selection.

On this first day, Trump seems to be taking it as seriously as he’s taken
anything else:

[ [link removed] ]Live coverage of Trump at his trial by the NYT reads: 'Trump appears to
be sleeping. His head keeps dropping down and his mouth goes slack.' Then
'Trump has apparently jolted back awake, noticing the notes his lawyer
passed him several minutes ago.'

That’s right, while Trump faces charges that could be life-altering for
any normal person, he’s falling asleep. Why? Because no one has ever been
more disconnected from the concept of consequences than Donald Trump.

While Donald sleeps through his trial in New York, the work continues
across the country to defeat him and his allies. Although the courts must
pursue full accountability for his crimes, Trump's MAGA movement and its
legacy will only be beaten at the ballot box.

That’s why, today, we’re excited to announce our next step in that work
with a second round of endorsements in our [ [link removed] ]Local Voices, Local Power
(LVLP) Group Support Program.

LVLP puts money and resources into our groups’ hands to drive wins for
Democratic fighters across the country and up and down the ballot. Groups’
support of these candidates allows the opportunity to build the coalition
we need to keep Trump out of office, win a true trifecta, and codify
reproductive freedoms nationally.

Here are the second round of candidates, the groups who endorsed them, and
a quick summation of why they endorsed in their own words:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

[ [link removed] ]West GA Indivisible Endorses Val Almonord

Val Almonord is endorsed by [ [link removed] ]West Georgia Indivisible. Val has shown
great dedication and leadership while campaigning for Congress in a deep
red district. Over previous cycles, Val has been able to earn more support
and recognition within GA-03, boosting his community’s trust in him. Val
is running again to ensure progressive, pro-democracy values are front and
center in the race for this historically unopposed seat.

[ [link removed] ]Indivisible Sauk Prairie endorses Tammy Baldwin

Senator Baldwin is endorsed by [ [link removed] ]Indivisible Sauk Prairie because she
shares their progressive ideals. She champions healthcare for all, LGBTQ+
rights, and women's rights. Tammy passionately supports veterans, farmers,
and rural communities. She gets things done for Wisconsin and is a strong
voice in the Senate. Tammy Baldwin is honest and genuinely cares about
people and our future.

[ [link removed] ]Avondale ACTion endorses John Barrow

John Barrow is endorsed by [ [link removed] ]Avondale ACTion. He has a long history of
public service in Georgia: as a county commissioner, a 5-term Member of
Congress (before being gerrymandered out by the GOP), and a volunteer
staff attorney for the Atlanta Legal Aid Society. John believes that
Georgians have the same rights under the Georgia Constitution that we used
to have under Roe v. Wade. He fully supports reproductive freedom! His
opponent, a sitting Justice, does not. His opponent is a former law clerk
to Clarence Thomas, an officer in the Federalist Society, and was the
chief appellate lawyer for the State of Georgia when Georgia joined AL and
MS in the case that overturned Roe v Wade. Georgia and Georgians NEED John
Barrow on the State Supreme Court.

[ [link removed] ]Engage Long Island endorses Kim Keiserman

Kim Keiserman is endorsed by [ [link removed] ]Engage Long Island. Kim Keiserman is a
known quantity in our group. She was a featured speaker at our January 6th
Defend Democracy rally, a leader in the Concerned Citizens of NY-03 (who
worked tirelessly to oust George Santos), she works with Moms Demand
Action, and more. Many of our members worked side by side with Kim locally
and in Washington to oust George Santos. Other members have worked with
her on reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, environmental issues, and
sensible gun law reform. We know the level of commitment and diligence she
will bring to the New York Senate. She is well liked, respected, and
accessible to our members. We believe that she will be the strongest
advocate and fighter for SD 7, and our members are excited to put in the
work to make sure Kim Keiserman is victorious.

[ [link removed] ]Indivisible Katy Huddle endorses Sean Teare

Sean Teare is endorsed by [ [link removed] ]Indivisible Katy Huddle. Sean has the skills
and experience in the DA's office to identify and fix the problems facing
Harris County. He also is extremely personable, approachable, and
accessible, and will see that justice is served in every case. Thanks to a
lot of hard work from Houston Indivisibles, Sean was able to unseat
incumbent Kim Ogg in the March primary, by a landslide, all but ensuring
he’ll be the next Harris County DA!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

These candidates reflect our local groups’ commitment to finding and
supporting candidates who reflect a Democratic ideal that will drive the
sorts of change we desperately need. Whether that’s enshrining
reproductive freedoms on a federal level, or fighting for the dignity of
all people across a single city, we are looking for true Democratic
fighters who will defend democracy and champion the will of the people
come November.

Trump may be asleep at the wheel of his own campaign, but Indivisibles
across the country are taking control of our destiny! How are you joining
in the fight?

With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Your 5 weekly to-dos

 1. [ [link removed] ]Sign up to defend democracy from Trump with Project 2024: Majority
Over MAGA. Our Project 2024 was made in direct opposition to Trump’s
dangerous MAGA objectives. This new electoral program will ensure
Indivisibles all across the country have the opportunity to make a
difference in the highest-priority races this cycle and prevent a MAGA
catastrophe from taking place. This will include tactics like
phonebanking, postcarding, and direct-to-voter texting along with our
groundbreaking community conversation strategy: Neighbor2Neighbor.
Sign up to be the first to know when we launch our tools in your area.
 2. [ [link removed] ]Check and see if Neighbor2Neighbor is available in your area. Last
week, we opened pre-registration for Indivisible Action’s version of
our highly effective, community conversation program
Neighbor2Neighbor. If you want to have the biggest impact on voter
turnout, this is the most effective way we’ve found to mobilize our
community members (our numbers prove it). Check and see if
Neighbor2Neighbor is available in your area and, if it is, sign up
today.
 3. [ [link removed] ]Call your senator and demand they protect in vitro fertilization
(IVF) access nationwide. The MAGA agenda did not just stop at
repealing Roe. They intend to ban contraception, IVF, gender-affirming
care, marriage equality, and more. Sen. Tammy Duckworth has introduced
the Access to Family Building Act, a bill that would enshrine access
to IVF and related services as a federal right, protecting both
would-be families and their medical providers. If your senator is a
Democrat, call and make sure they are a cosponsor. If your senator is
a Republican, tell them to put their money where their mouth is, pass
this bill, and actually support families.
 4. [ [link removed] ]When you’re finished calling, send your senators an email urging
them to protect IVF access.
 5. [ [link removed] ]Email your MoC about cosponsoring H.R. 732 -- the Save Medicare
Act. We know the MAGA agenda includes [ [link removed] ]ending Medicare as we know
it -- and a big part of their scheme includes handing the reins to
private insurers. But we’ve seen what happens when greedy insurance
companies are put in charge: Medicare Advantage, the privatized option
for Medicare, is rampant with fraud and overspending. If we allow
insurance companies unchecked power to run the program, we risk
sticking millions of Americans with coverage that promises quality
healthcare only to deny coverage for essential care and services.
Congress must hold these predatory Medicare Advantage plans
accountable, and that starts with blocking the deceptive naming of
these private plans.

P.S. We rely on grassroots supporters to help fund the tools Indivisibles
use on a daily basis -- including the call pages and email tools on your
to do list! [ [link removed] ]If you're able, pitch in today to help fund our work and
keep this movement going.

Call for a Humanitarian Ceasefire

**Content Warning: Talk about the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Jump to the line break if you need to avoid this topic.**

Last Thursday, [ [link removed] ]Indivisible, alongside prominent partner organizations
and unions, sent a letter to President Biden urging him to suspend the
transfer of weapons to Israel used for offensive operations in Gaza.

This is in line with the 56 Democratic representatives who sent the White
House a letter two weeks ago and an important reminder that we are urging
the administration to work toward peace -- and peace cannot come from more
violence.

In the weekend that followed, Iran launched retaliatory strikes against
Israel in response to Netanyahu’s April 1 strike against the Iranian
consulate in Damascus. Though Iran’s strikes did not cause any casualties
(16 people were killed in the consulate attack), these actions represent
an escalation in the regional conflict, a conflict that we so desperately
need to avoid.

At the same time, [ [link removed] ]settler violence in the West Bank continued to
increase over the weekend as Israeli settlers stormed a West Bank village
searching for a missing boy. The boy was later found dead, setting off
another wave of settler violence.

Over 450 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since October 7th,
along with more that 4,700 injured. Despite President Biden [ [link removed] ]warning
against retaliatory violence from extremist settlers in February, this
alarming trend has persisted.

It is clear that what is happening in the region has stretched far beyond
the stated goal of eliminating Hamas and is on the verge of becoming a
full-scale regional war. This benefits no one. Not the US. Not any of the
multiple regional countries who would be pulled into a larger conflict.
Not the people of Palestine nor the people of Israel.

It is vital that President Biden and Congress do everything in their power
to prevent any further escalation and protect the millions of innocent
civilians who are sitting in the crossfire. De-escalation and diplomacy
must be our focus.

Call your Members of Congress and demand they call for a ceasefire,
uninhibited access to humanitarian aid, and the return of all hostages
today.
