John,
As Americans file their taxes today the thought of gun violence may not be on their minds, but its economic cost is undeniable.
Every year, gun violence kills over 38,000 and these lives lost are undoubtedly the most devastating toll of our uniquely American epidemic, but the insidious nature of gun violence means that it affects many other facets of our day to day lives.
In addition to the lives that are viciously stolen from us, gun violence costs taxpayers $12.62 billion a year.
Yes, you read that right, John. Gun violence has a billions-of-dollars price tag and the burden is being put on the American people while the NRA and gun industry continue to profit from death and destruction.
It should not be up to Americans to foot the bill for the gun industry’s misconduct – not with their tax dollars and certainly not with their lives. It’s time for the gun industry to be held accountable for their wrongdoing: Will you add your name to Brady’s urgent petition right now and demand that the gun industry be held accountable?
