JOHN,
Our friends in Israel faced another unimaginable attack over the weekend.
Iran, a long-standing sponsor of terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, launched hundreds of drones and missiles into Israel’s airspace. This prompted a large-scale defensive operation that intercepted 99% of the projectiles fired by Iran. The Iron Dome, a system we proudly helped fund, proved to be an incredible asset, and our distinguished U.S. military moved quickly into position to help shoot down countless missiles.
But are we doing enough to help our greatest ally in the Middle East defend itself? Not since the Biden administration took over. In theory, America helped Iran fund this attack when our leaders failed to enforce sanctions and essentially gave it a stamp of approval, saying any action just needed to be "within certain limits.”
This is not the way we defend and protect Israel, folks—and I can’t shake the feeling that this wouldn’t have happened under President Trump’s watch. Under his leadership, Iran was nearly bankrupt. Today, they’re printing money by ramping up oil production for China, all while playing a malicious part on the world stage.
The harsh reality is this: Our enemies no longer fear us, and that’s a daunting truth to accept.
The days ahead will be telling. I will fight tooth and nail, alongside my Republican colleagues, to pass legislation that supports our friends in Israel during one of their darkest hours.
We all know Democrats will try to lump this in with Ukraine aid, but as I’ve said before, I support the Ukrainian people in their fight against Russia, but there’s no strategic plan outlining how the BILLIONS of dollars we’ve already supplied are being used. Europe must take the lead in assisting Ukraine. After all, this war is right on its doorstep.
I'm hoping we can narrow our focus down to a bill solely aimed at providing aid for the people of Israel, enabling us to get it done quickly as it determines its next move.
As all of this unfolds, what can you do? I get this question pretty often, and my answer remains the same: Pray for the people of Israel, and vote like your life depends on it in 2024—because, quite frankly, it does.
Sincerely,
