Friend,

All across our country, essential workers in industries such as health care, social assistance, custodial and food services, and more are working exceptionally hard to help our communities survive the crisis of the coronavirus pandemic. According to new data released in the New York Times this week, almost one-third of the entire DACA population, more than 200,000 DACA recipients, are employed in essential services right now.

Amidst the current crisis, healthcare professionals and other experts are speaking out to urge the Supreme Court to protect DACA recipients and allow them to continue their vital work. We wanted to share a few of these calls to action:

In one of several articles this week calling for the protection of DACA recipients, four healthcare executives from across the country stressed the dire consequences of the Supreme Court’s inaction in the New York Times:
If the Supreme Court upholds the decision to terminate DACA, nearly 700,000 people — including those health care workers — will lose their ability to work and live in the United States. The administration is preparing to deport DACA recipients and has repeatedly stated that it will do so if the Supreme Court gives it the green light, something that could happen as soon this coming Monday, April 6. There are many reasons for the Supreme Court to hold the administration’s decision invalid, and the pandemic confirms those flaws.

Also this week, the Washington Post Editorial Board declared that terminating DACA “...would be catastrophic, and not just for the dreamers themselves, young people in their 20s and 30s who have grown up here. It would also be catastrophic for the United States.”

The New York Times quoted a brief filed in October by the Association of American Medical Colleges and other groups to the Supreme Court saying, “The nation...was not prepared ‘to fill the loss that would result if DACA recipients were excluded from the health care work force.’” [link removed]

USA Today interviewed multiple DACA recipients working on the frontlines in the medical field who fear being deported in the midst of this crisis.

The Boston Globe Editorial Board similarly did not mince words, writing “To defeat the coronavirus, America needs immigrants.” [link removed]

In these difficult times, it’s more important than ever to stand up for our fellow Americans who do so much for this country every day. We urge you to share these articles and continue to speak out with DACA recipients.

In solidarity,
