Dear John,

It’s been one year since deadly conflict erupted without warning in Khartoum, Sudan’s capital city, spreading to other parts through the country quickly after.

Just one year of war was enough for Sudan to quickly become one of the largest humanitarian and displacement crises in the world. Nearly 8.5 million people were forced to flee their homes.

Away from global attention, refugees and returnees in neighboring countries and people displaced inside the country are enduring unimaginable hardship.

Those who are able to cross the borders find limited resources to support them after long and harrowing journeys to safety. People fleeing Sudan continue to arrive in Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia and South Sudan. These are countries that already hosted a large number of refugees.

Despite these challenges, UNHCR teams are doing everything they can to protect the people fleeing Sudan, from registering people at the border, to providing emergency supplies and shelter. But we need your help.

Your donation today can provide:

  • Emergency shelters to protect displaced families in Sudan and the region
  • Food for families suffering through a looming hunger crisis
  • Supplemental feeding for malnourished women and children
  • Clean water and sanitation facilities to prevent the spread of disease
  • Medical supplies for those injured or suffering from disease outbreak

The needs are overwhelming, and the crisis is severely underfunded at only 39 per cent as of the end of 2023.

Despite the challenges, UNHCR is committed to staying and delivering for those forced to flee, for as long as it takes. The global focus on this crisis may be fading, but we cannot let the people of Sudan be forgotten.

Your support has never been more critical.

We must act now to help, and we need your urgent support. Please consider making a donation today.

Thank you for your generosity,

Monia Hassan
