WEEK IN REVIEW

Dear Friend,

I know these last few weeks have been challenging for all of us. But it’s often in these challenging times when Iowans band together and rise to the occasion, and this pandemic is no different. We’re seeing it across our state. Iowans are stepping up to help Iowans.

Do you have a story of Iowans helping Iowans? I want to hear from you. Please visit my website and submit your story about ways you, your family members, your neighbor, etc. are stepping up to help each other out during these difficult times.

It’s the stories of folks across our state that have inspired me to get Iowans the relief they need, and as quickly as possible. That’s why I’m continuing to fight hard for folks from every corner and county of the state—to ensure we’re doing all we can to support them during this difficult time.

Stay safe and stay strong, Iowa. We’re going to get through this—together.

Iowans will get through this – together.

While our Governor Kim Reynolds has continued to be a steady hand for our state, at the federal level Senator Chuck Grassley and I have been working at a rapid pace, and across the aisle, to get immediate aid for Iowans.

This is an extraordinary situation, and it requires an extraordinary response. It’s all-hands-on-deck. I’ll continue to partner with our Governor Reynolds and folks at the state and local levels to make sure we get our families, small businesses, and health care workers on the front lines through this crisis. Helping Small Businesses, Farmers Navigate Federal Relief

Throughout this pandemic, I’ve continued to stay in constant communication with Iowans throughout the state.

This week, I participated in telephone question-and-answer sessions with business leaders in the Dubuque, Siouxland, and Quad Cities areas focused on the federal relief packages I helped pass over the last few weeks. I was able to answer questions from Iowans and provide a summary of the resources that have been made available to the state’s families and small businesses.

In addition, I spoke with members of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association about the issues they face during these difficult times. Following that conversation, I joined my colleagues to call on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide immediate assistance to cattle producers in Iowa and across the country through the resources passed in the Phase 3 relief package.

Iowa’s farmers and producers are the best of the best, even during a crisis, they continue to feed and fuel the world!

Calling for Immediate Financial Assistance for Iowa’s Rural Health Care Providers

After hearing from a number of hospitals, health centers, and workers in Iowa about the need for immediate financial relief, I successfully helped include critical funding for the health care community on the front lines of COVID-19 in the recently-passed, bipartisan Phase 3 package.

This week, I urged the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to immediately assist rural hospitals and clinics by prioritizing funding for these critical health care providers.

Seeking Tariff Relief for Iowa Businesses

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, I’ve been in constant communication with Iowans from every corner of the state to ensure they are receiving the support they need, and I’ve heard from a number of Iowa businesses about the importance of tariff relief.

As a member of the Small Business Committee, I joined a bipartisan letter urging Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to defer all tariffs during the pandemic.

Working with Gov. Reynolds, Update on Federal Relief Efforts

In addition to speaking directly to Iowans from every corner and country of the state, I also joined Governor Kim Reynolds for her press conference last Sunday to provide an update on the relief I helped secure for Iowans during the COVID-19 pandemic in the multiple bipartisan packages Congress has passed and the president has signed into law.

Siouxland Proud reporting in part: “…Ernst broke down the CARES Act signed by President Trump on Friday. She said the act will also expand unemployment insurance by $250 billion to support laid-off workers.

KCAU also covered my report on the relief packages.
