Team, there’s been a LOT in the news lately about abortion access.
Most of it, of course, is horrific and frustrating (see: Arizona going back to a near-total 1864 ban that was in place before women could vote, and before Arizona was even a state).
Some of it is slightly confusing (see: Florida simultaneously approving a 6-week ban and putting an abortion access ballot measure on the November ticket).
And some of it is just plain ridiculous (see: Donald Trump claiming he won’t sign a federal abortion ban if he’s elected).
Here’s why that’s ridiculous: We know for a fact that Donald Trump will say or do whatever benefits him at any moment, true or not. We also know that Trump appointed three extreme Supreme Court justices who ultimately made the majority of the majority that overturned Roe v. Wade . And we all heard Trump brag about the end of Roe v. Wade as a “miracle.”
So where is this latest supposed “pivot” coming from?
Well, he already told us:
In January, during a GOP presidential primary debate on Fox News, Trump acknowledged how unpopular abortion bans are and how badly they are impacting Republicans’ chances at the ballot box. He said, “We’re going to come up with something that people want and people like…You’ve got to win elections.”
There it is.
I’m not going to waste a single second thinking that Trump is on the side of women here – or on the side of the majority of Americans who want abortion to be accessible. Trump is on one side, and one side only: his own.
For every pregnant person whose life is at risk after the loss of Roe , for every young person scared to grow up in this reality, and for everyone who has lost rights in our country, we need to defeat Trump and every single one of his acolytes this November.
I’m running against an extreme anti-abortion MAGA Republican, and there are candidates just like him running in key races up and down the ticket all across the country. If we want to send a clear message that they can’t win with these ridiculous anti-choice policies, we need to take action now .
Will you pitch in any amount to my re-election campaign to help secure a big victory against my MAGA opponent? You can make a secure online contribution at this link: [link removed]
Thank you so much for your support. There’s no going quietly when it comes to our bodies and our freedoms.
