Hi John,
Make sure you take the time to read this new op-ed ([link removed] ) by No Labels’ Mike Rawlings that appeared in the Dallas Morning News this weekend.
Rawlings, the former Mayor of Dallas and longtime No Labels volunteer leader, shares his view on why a Unity presidential ticket did not ultimately emerge. He writes:
“While many of my Democratic friends are happy we stood down, many more people who contacted me were disappointed and asked why No Labels was unable to find a candidate to unite the country. It’s simple. We needed two things in a potential candidate: Somebody who could win, and somebody with the courage to run. Many people checked one of the boxes, but no one checked both.”
But Rawlings also believes No Labels’ effort revealed an historic opening for political disruptors to upend the status quo:
“American politics today is like an industry that has fallen out of touch with consumers. When that happens in the private sector, it’s only a matter of time before an innovator comes along to disrupt the industry and meet market demand. I believe that disruption is coming soon to our politics.”
Despite the end of the No Labels Unity project, Rawlings finds reason to look forward to what’s next for the country and the commonsense majority:
“No Labels exposed the need and the desire for another option, and for the first time ever, we proved that the infrastructure can be built to introduce new and unifying leaders into our electoral system. That’s a win for America.”
