The opioid epidemic is wreaking havoc across the Pacific Northwest and our nation, with devastating consequences for families and communities. In the past year alone, Washington state witnessed the highest percentage increase in drug overdose deaths in the entire United States, fueled in part by the proliferation of synthetic opioids like fentanyl.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, communities in Northwest Washington were making strides in combating this crisis. But progress has stalled out, straining health care systems and hindering access to vital treatment and emergency services.
The toll of these drugs on lives, families, and communities cannot be overstated. We must reinvigorate efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and save lives.
We must staunch the flow of lethal opioids into our communities and bolster support for recovery efforts. Congress holds the key to kickstarting these initiatives, but what is crucial now is a sense of urgency and a commitment to action — sign my petition calling on my colleagues in Congress to take action now.

Addressing the opioid epidemic requires a comprehensive approach, one that involves understanding the challenges faced by communities and dismantling barriers to sustainable solutions. I believe that the federal government must step up to the plate, collaborating closely with local governments, tribal communities, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and frontline partners.
Join me in urging Congress to take immediate action to tackle the opioid epidemic and save lives nationwide.
Together, we can turn the tide on this crisis and build healthier, safer communities for all.
More soon,
Rick
