CAMPAIGNS UPDATE
April 2020

Dear John

This is the time of the month when I’d usually send you an update on our
campaigns and the latest news affecting the countryside.

But I thought I’d instead share with you a few ideas for how you can stay
connected with the countryside, nature and our CPRE community in these
challenging times.

And while we all love being out in our wonderful landscapes, especially as it
bursts into spring bloom, the best thing we can do right now is stay at home and
look after those close to us.

So here are a few ways to stay connected to the countryside and each other, and
to keep you occupied at home.

We’re sharing all of these, and more, on our social media accounts, so make sure
you’re following us on Facebook [[link removed]] , Twitter [[link removed]] and Instagram [[link removed]] .

COUNTRYSIDE CONNECTIONS

Lockdown across the UK is keeping many of us away from the outdoors. But we know
that a connection to nature is vital for our wellbeing.

From wildlife-watching from your window to sowing seeds in your garden, here are
10 simple ways to maintain that crucial connection with the countryside that we
need.

Why not let us know your favourite?

SOUNDS OF TRANQUILLITY

The calming power of nature can help us through this difficult time. But what if
you can't get outside? We're bringing the sounds of the countryside to you.

Back in 2006 we worked on a project with the Wildlife Recording Society to
record the sounds, melodies and tunes of our countryside, from birdsong to
waterfalls. We’ve put them together in a calming video for you all to enjoy.

Turn your sound up, and listen to the birds chirping, the rivers running and the
insects buzzing, in our sounds of tranquillity.

COUNTRYSIDE READS

We’re all finding ourselves spending more time at home at the moment. For now,
then, we might need to settle for using our imaginations to connect with the
countryside.

To help with this, we've rounded up some of our staff's favourite books that
help to bring the outdoors in.

From the diary of a changing woodland to celebration of our ancient paths,
there's something for everyone.

So put the kettle on, settle in and get ready to visit the countryside from your
armchair.
