1) The Biden Doctrine: America Weak At Home and Weak Abroad
It’s been more than three months since the Houthi pirates took control of shipping lanes in the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean. Just last week, they fired on American ships in the Red Sea. We’ve gone to war for less.

We are opposed to the U.S. acting as the world’s policeman, but the situation could have and would have been resolved three months ago if a Trump or a Reagan had been president. They would have taken out these criminals/terrorists with surgical precision.

Instead, the shipping lanes remain closed, and American cargo ships are forced to circle around Africa for the transport of goods to and from the U.S.

David Sokol, who runs cargo through these straits, estimates this has increased shipping costs by up to 40% – and further inflames inflation.

What’s worse, the New York Times reports that while “the Iran-backed pirates who control much of Yemen, have disrupted the global economy by firing on commercial ships traveling through the Red Sea, the Houthis have made some exceptions: Ships from China and Russia are allowed to pass without being attacked.”

The post-Cold War alliance — led by the United States, and including Japan, South Korea, and Western Europe — has dominated geopolitical affairs for four decades. It is now being frontally challenged by the evil alliance of China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea and the Iran-backed groups like the Houthis.

Thanks to Biden’s fecklessness, right now we are losing.

2) The Internet Is Under a Biden Regulatory Assault
Speaking of dangerous developments, last week, Republican FCC Commissioner, Brendan Carr, issued this dire warning on Biden's federal power grab over Internet service:

On April 25 the FCC will vote on President Biden’s 435-page plan for further expanding government control of the Internet. It will do so by implementing President Biden’s call for the FCC to apply the freewheeling powers contained in Title II of the Communications Act of 1934 to the Internet, including utility-style "net neutrality" regulations. The free and open Internet has flourished precisely because it has been unfettered by these types of command and control regulations and bureaucratic micromanagement. Indeed, while the FCC first applied Title II to high-speed Internet back in 2015 at President Obama’s direction, we quickly ended that failed experiment in 2017.

This is a dangerous government overreach and a reversal of the Trump administration deregulation that caused prices to plummet and speeds to soar. Alas, it appears Biden has all three Democrats on the FCC set to enact it on a party-line vote.

Congress is supposed to make the laws, not unelected regulators. It's the very first thing in the Constitution after the preamble: "All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States."

This is why we need the ideas represented in the REINS Act, to force Congress to vote on major new programs like this.

3) Chart of the Day
Even America’s greatest enemies couldn’t come up with a more incomprehensible and economically debilitating tax code than the one we have today.

The firm Cover & Rossiter (certified public accountants) has estimated that the tax code and the regulations now total 35 million words. That’s more than 6 times as many words as War and Peace, the Bible, the entire Harry Potter series, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Les Miserables, the Hunger Games series, Atlas Shrugged, the Twilight series, Gone with the Wind, and The Brothers Karamazov – combined.

And those were interesting readings. Can we PLEASE get a flat tax?

4) In Defense of Plastics
A memorable moment in the iconic film "The Graduate" is when Dustin Hoffman is told by Mrs. Robinson’s husband that the future is in plastics.

Today the left hates plastics, almost as much as they do oil, gas, and coal. Plastic straws, plastic bags, and plastic everything are said to be killing dolphins and whales and smothering Mother Earth.

More than a dozen states now restrict or tax plastic bags and some have outlawed plastic straws.

But it turns out that just like green energy can be worse for the planet than fossil fuels, the waste against plastics is a sham.

Lightweight plastic bags have little impact on litter and contribute only 0.4 percent by weight of waste sent to landfills. As for marine life, a senior biologist with Greenpeace, says: “It’s very unlikely that many animals are killed by plastic bags. The evidence shows just the opposite.”

Now a new report in the peer-reviewed Environmental Science & Technology Journal reports that in 15 out of 16 applications of plastic covering 90% of global volume, the alternatives actually produced more greenhouse gases. Paper bag substitutes produce at least four times more GHG emissions than their plastic counterparts and also weigh more thus releasing more carbon emissions in their transport. “Furthermore,” the scientists observe, “in some applications, such as food packaging, no suitable alternatives to plastics exist.”

The report does note there is a need for better disposal or plastics, but that can be solved through better waste management practices.

Like recycling, the rejection of plastics has nothing to do with science or economics. It’s mostly green virtue signaling.

5) CTUP Instant Impact – Our Attack on Biden Student Loan Bailout Reaches 7 Million Readers
Last week Biden announced yet another round of student loan discharges, and Penn-Wharton's estimate of cost to federal taxpayers of the new round is $84 billion, raising Biden's total student loan bailout tab to $559 billion, a half-trillion-dollar-plus re-election ploy.

We reported that the biggest winners in dollar terms in the Biden plan are 750,000 households with an average income above $300,000. They were excluded on the basis of income from Biden's last round of student loan giveaways, but this time he has no income cap.

Billionaire Bill Ackman — yes, the Harvard donor who successfully called for Harvard president Claudine Gay’s resignation — retweeted CTUP President Phil Kerpen’s facts and figures on this student loan sham. It has over 7 million views and counting as of this morning!
