We’re working locally, in state houses, and nationally in Congress to fully decriminalize marijuana. Let’s be clear: rescheduling alone – as President Biden has called for – cannot and will not undo the harm caused by decades of federal prohibition and criminalization.
And when I use the word “harm,” I want you to remember that I’m talking about those still incarcerated for a drug that’s increasingly legal.
I’m talking about families torn apart when someone is arrested for simple marijuana possession.
And I’m talking about Black and brown communities that have suffered the most from racially targeted enforcement of our drug laws.
It’s time to put marijuana prohibition in the past where it belongs. And you can do twice as much to push this urgent work forward by giving today, while your gift will be MATCHED.
Friend, together, you and I and our movement to end this drug war will make our communities more powerful, reclaim our rights, and ensure we can live with the dignity we deserve.
I know we can make that happen. But only if we work together in this moment.
So, let’s take the joy of 4/20’s celebration and use it to drive the next chapter of our fight.
