UPDATE AND CORRECTION: After we sent our last email, a second federal judge made a ruling that contradicts some information passed on to you. The deadline for returning absentee ballots remains April 13. However, your ballot must be signed by a witness before you return it.

Election Day, April 7, is just days away. Tuesday’s election is so important, with our state Supreme Court on the line, as well as local cities, counties, and school boards.

If you’ve requested your ballot, it’s imperative to get it in as quickly as possible to make sure it’s counted. A recent court ruling extended the deadline for returning ballots to April 13, but don’t delay.

We've outlined ways you can submit your ballot below.

If you're mailng it in, please do so immediately so it arrives by April 13. In some communities, there are other ways to cast your ballot safely, too. Some have set up ballot drop boxes and curbside voting to make it easy and safe to ensure your ballot gets counted on April 7.

We’ve compiled a list of what communities are doing here. Our list is being updated regularly, because the situation is constantly changing. It’s a good idea to double check what services your community is offering when it comes to casting a ballot by checking with your clerk or checking your municipality’s website. 

Depending on your municipality, you might be able to drop off your absentee ballot at the clerk’s office, vote curbside, or use a drop box to return your ballot.

Remember: the election has not been postponed or rescheduled as of April 3. If you haven’t voted absentee or you miss the deadline to request an absentee ballot, you can still vote. Municipalities are taking special precautions regarding polling place capacity and distancing. Some polling places have moved, so again, call your clerk’s office or check their website before heading out. When it comes to requesting absentee ballots, you certainly answered the call! More than a million voters have requested them in the weeks since COVID-19 began changing our daily lives. It’s an inspiration to see. Now, it’s crucial we get those ballots cast.
