Original Message from Comptroller Brad Lander:
HiJohn, it’s Brad :-)
Almost a year ago, Mayor Eric Adams made a mildly offensive impression of me in front of cameras during a live-streamed press conference, referring to me as "the loudest person in the city."
Since then, I've proudly embraced that — because what I'm loud about is the need for compassionate, capable government on the issues affecting New York City.
If you’re in a place to do so, can you make a contribution of any amount before our mid-month April fundraising deadline on April 15? Even $1 makes a huge difference. [[link removed]]
One issue I'm particularly loud about is the affordability crisis here in New York. The rent, John, is too damn high.
Families are leaving the city. Renters are being priced out. And exorbitant housing costs are a major contributor to our escalating homelessness crisis. Then of course there are the other skyrocketing costs — transportation, groceries, health care, and so many other aspects of life.
Addressing the affordability crisis requires bold action — and capable leadership.
That’s why I’m pushing as hard as I can for a housing agreement in Albany that would increase housing construction, protect tenants' rights, and provide vouchers to support homeless New Yorkers. And that’s why my office launched a city-level housing campaign aimed at investing in deeply affordable, community-centered housing.
Do you want me to keep being “loud” about this issue?
If you’re with me, please consider making a donation of just $1 to my campaign before our April mid-month deadline on Monday, April. [[link removed]]
