Yet, the concept of separation of church and state is fairly straightforward and enshrined in the First Amendment:
1) The establishment clause of this amendment protects against governmental endorsement and imposition of religion
2) The free exercise clause ensures the right to practice your faith, but significantly, doing so without harming others.
These important clauses are what keeps our country from becoming a theocracy.
This election is about democracy; it's about our individual freedoms and its about the separation of our faith beliefs from government policy.
These are, in fact, very dangerous times for our nation. I'm running as a Democrat because I believe in protecting the right to practice one's faith but to ensure our individual beliefs are not imposed on others. Without that separation, we are no longer America.
