It's been another busy week in TX-23 and D.C. I am proud to serve our district in Congress. Each day, I work to address your concerns and protect our liberties. From helping you navigate federal casework to advocating for your priorities, my team and I are always here to help. Honoring our Community Leaders I started the week in D.C. with a very special member of the San Antonio veteran community. Jana Evans is a champion for our servicemembers, veterans, and military families. She has been a dedicated leader with Soldiers’ Angels since April 2022. Jana was chosen as one of this year's Defense Community Champion National Honorees by the Association of Defense Communities. I was proud to present her with this honor at the awards ceremony on Tuesday. Congratulations, Jana! Supporting our Armed Services On Thursday, I met with the Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Eric Smith. We discussed military readiness and quality of life initiatives for our troops. I am a proud Co-Chair of the For Country Caucus in Congress. Our caucus is comprised of principled Members of Congress who served in the military. We are focused on working together to pass thoughtful legislation that strengthens our national security, supports our veterans, and delivers for our servicemembers and their families. Combating Oil Theft in West Texas Last week, I met with leadership in Winkler, Crane, Ward, Reagan, Reeves, and Upton Counties to discuss several important issues in the region. One of those issues is the rise in oil theft across West Texas. I'm committed to working with local, state, and federal officials to stop this crime. During Thursday's House Appropriations Committee hearing, I emphasized this growing concern from local law enforcement and urged FBI Director Christopher Wray to expand the FBI's oil field theft task force in West Texas. My legislation coming to the House floor next week condemns the Biden administration’s handling of this crisis and urges them to take immediate action to end this dire national security threat. Cracking Down on Dangerous Gang Activity Tren de Aragua is a dangerous gang that has unleashed terror and devastation across Central and South America. Now, we’re seeing these violent criminals in our country. During this week's House Appropriations Committee hearing, I questioned Director Wray on what the FBI is doing to combat the rise in transnational crime.
