Friends,
April has certainly been off to a shaky start. The Covid-19 pandemic has been spreading rapidly throughout the united states, and in New York City in particular. It is frightening the lack of preparation there was being done by the government to ensure that we were ready to combat this virus.
Our federal government should be standing up, setting examples and making sure they are doing everything in their power to protect the lives of American people. The virus has many negative implications. When, 6.6 million Americans have filed for unemployment in the past week alone, people should not be forced to spend their money on necessities such as rent during this pandemic.
This is a major issue. Right now the only thing people should need to worry about, is providing proper food and healthcare to themselves and to their families. It is devastating that people who are sick, or who have come in contact with this disease are not able to be adequately tested for it, due to testing facility over-flow and lack of needed supplies by medical professionals.
Many members of our district, New York’s 5th Congressional district, are being placed in an extremely vulnerable situation with the implications associated with the Covid-19 pandemic. Our district is currently holds some of the most cases per 100,000 people throughout the country, and that is extremely alarming.
That is why we have been fortunate enough to be able to focus efforts towards helping the many in our community who need to choose between eating enough, or saving to pay their bills in three months. In the past couple days, we have reached and helped over 25 families in our community who needed supplies to help get through this pandemic.
Our Community Care Outreach program has been excelling with being able to assist those who are left most vulnerable by this pandemic. With surges of donations coming in to get supplies and necessities for those in need, we have been able to provide for everyone who has reached out to us. But we still need to collect more to ensure that our community is properly taken care of.
All of your contributions for the month of April will be
going towards supplies for struggling folks in my community. Can you chip in to ensure the people of NY-5 receive the proper care in this pandemic?
