A PERSONAL NOTE
Good morning!
Well, the day is coming fast. My ankle is beyond healing on its own, and it will have to be reconstructed with grafts, screws, and other fun things. After struggling for a year and a half, my surgery will be this week, on the 18th. The repair is far more extensive than I thought it would be, but I'm grateful that I am able to have it done.
The recovery is lengthy, and I'm not going to be able to bear weight on it for 6-8 weeks. Then, I'll be able to use a walking boot for another six weeks, and then, finally, I can start physical therapy.
I prefer to think of it in more bite-sized pieces because that sounds like a very long time. I'll be in bed for
two weeks. 🙂 There. That sounds easier already, doesn't it?
Here's what this means for you guys.
I'll be working through Wednesday. After that, we may end up going a week or so with no posts and no Survival Sunday. My daughter, Chloe, has taken the reigns of TheFrugalite.com, so that site will still be up and posting as usual. You'll notice that it will be her name on those emails beginning this week. Please give her a warm welcome as she begins this new adventure.
I'll do my best to get a chapter ready for Saturday Shenanigans this week before I go in for surgery and have my girls post that for me. I make no promises, but I'll try. I'm forcing myself to take time to rest - this will be the first week since OP began twelve years ago that no new content will be going up for a whole week and I appreciate that you will allow me some grace during this time.
My
daughters will be dropping you an email on Thursday after the operation to let you know how things went.
This week has been a non-stop frenzy of cleaning and organizing. I have some meals made ahead and in the freezer. I have some furniture moved out to make room for the new scooter that will be my new ride for a while. In my room, I have a rolling cart filled with device cords, activities, unread novels, markers, and notebooks to keep me occupied while I'm in bed. I'll finally be able to catch up on some reading for fun!
I plan to work hard to finish Grace and Lexie's story during my 6-8 week recovery. (Your warm feedback on that has been incredible! Thank you!)
All in all, I'm really happy that I'm going to be able to do this. If the ankle can't heal naturally, it's time to just get it fixed. I want to be out hiking again by the time the leaves turn in the autumn. I have every
intention of seeing some of y'all at Prepper Camp in September. I can finally see the light at the end of this tunnel.
I'm so fortunate to have friends and family who are willing to help me out during this time with rides to the hospital, care at home, moral support, and keeping the fires burning with the business. I feel very loved right now.
We have many things to accomplish together as we prepare even more for the future. If you have a health problem that needs to be taken care of, I urge you to do it now, before things go sideways and while the care can be accessed. We should all strive to be in our best possible health to meet the challenges of the future head-on.
We're facing threats to our food supply from many different angles: supply chain breakdowns, drought, food facilities being ravaged by fires, skyrocketing inflation, and outright shortages. No longer can we live in the comfort of unthreatened abundance. We're learning exactly how delicate the system really is.
Prepping and putting back supplies is incredibly important but what we're seeing now goes beyond that. You have to be able to produce and acquire more food. You have to be able to put back your harvests to eat during the winter. You have to be able to prepare items that once were as convenient as popping open a can or little plastic container.
You need a paperback copy of How to Feed Your Family No Matter What, our Organic Prepper anthology with ALL of our content about food. You'll get more than 500 pages of content that are all about food when you can't just go to the store and buy whatever you want.
