The COVID-19 pandemic has brought our systemic inequalities to the
forefront — further exposing the social and economic disparities that have
plagued our country for far too long.

Every single worker in our country should have guaranteed paid sick leave
— but even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic — that is not the case.

While Congress provided some workers with limited access to paid sick days
and family leave through the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, many
of our most vulnerable workers were left out, including our frontline
healthcare workers.

This is an injustice that we must fight together. That’s why Ayanna just
introduced a bill — in partnership with Congresswoman DeLauro and Sens.
Patty Murray and Kirsten Gillibrand — to guarantee paid sick days, along
with paid family and medical leave, for ALL workers — fully funded by the
Federal government — in response to the COVID-19 crisis and for future
public health crises.

Ayanna just introduced to guarantee paid sick leave to ALL workers during
this pandemic?

Healthcare workers, sanitation workers, janitors and others are currently
putting themselves and their families at risk because they do not have
guaranteed paid sick days or family leave. No one should have to choose
between taking care of an ill family member and losing their job.

For every worker and independent contractor, the PAID Leave Act would:

1) Provide 14 emergency paid sick days in the event of a public health
emergency, including the current coronavirus crisis, reimbursed in full by
the federal government.
2) Provide workers with 12 weeks emergency paid family and medical leave,
fully reimbursed by the federal government.
3) Permanently ensure workers can accrue 7 paid sick days.
4) Permanently enact a paid family and medical leave program (Senator
Gillibrand’s and Representative DeLauro’s FAMILY Act).

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted our country’s systemic inequalities.
We must come together and fight to ensure that every worker has access to
paid sick days and family and medical leave.
