** DEAR FRIENDS,
------------------------------------------------------------

An update on our work today.

A Mexican rodeo being held at 289 Irene Rd Kirkland, Il 60146 can’t seem to follow simple guideline that were set in place this past year!

Each contestant or person that is responsible for moving the animals is to be wearing a bib number clearly presented on their backs. Sounds simple enough, right? Apparently not. Some participants are wearing bibs on their backs, some are wearing them on their arms, and some are not wearing them at all.

We have called the Sheriff’s office on this violation, as well as constant and severe overworking of the steers. At the time we called the steers were going into their fourth runs of the day, only 3 hours into the event! The Sheriff’s and Animal Control did go out to the location…and then they left. They claim that everyone was wearing their bibs, even though we have evidence to the contrary, as seen below!

At the time the Sheriffs were out there, none of the steers had been physically injured. But now that the overworking of these steers is continuing, they are getting exhausted. A steer has now been degloved.

Degloving occurs when skin and the fat below it, the subcutaneous tissue, are torn away from the underlying anatomical structures they are normally attached to. This is a very painful injury!

SHARK is now on Venmo! Donations made simple, right from your phone! Click the Venmo button ->
