I’m reaching out today to talk about an urgent issue – the Arizona abortion ban.
As you’ve probably heard, earlier this week, Arizona Republicans revived an 1864 ( you read that right – 1864 ) law that criminalizes abortion throughout pregnancy with no exceptions for rape or incest. The law predates Arizona’s statehood and women’s suffrage by several decades, and yet, it’s being used to subjugate women today.
I’m infuriated by the actions of the past few days, friend. It’s clearer than ever that far-right extremists in the state house will stop at absolutely nothing to deprive women of their bodily autonomy.
I’m so grateful to Governor Hobbs and Attorney General Mayes for standing up and vowing to fight back against this horrific law, but that’s not enough to protect Arizona women and weed out extremism. In order to stop the anti-choice advocates and fully restore abortion rights, we need to elect as many pro-choice candidates as possible in November – from the top of the ballot all the way down to state legislature and local races.
Our district is in Maricopa County – one of the most competitive counties in the state – so we have to dig deep and fight with everything we’ve got to win big in November.
