I’m very disturbed by the news out of Arizona this week. In case you missed it, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled that a 1864 law banning abortion in nearly all cases, with no exceptions for rape or incest, could go into effect.

This law predates Arizona statehood when women didn’t have the right to vote. It also threatens to jail anyone who aids in an abortion, whether a doctor or a loved one.

Republicans, including my opponent Mike Garcia, have been plotting for a national abortion ban for years. Now, they’re inching closer to their goal.

It’s absolutely critical that we win CA-27 to secure the House majority for Democrats and protect reproductive freedom. It will be my priority in Congress to enshrine Roe v. Wade into law and protect access to abortion and other health care nationwide.

I refuse to silently stand by while we’re pulled back to an era where my daughter has fewer rights than my wife did at her age. It’s sickening, but the GOP has made it clear that this is what’s at stake nationwide.
