We know this election cycle is going to be stressful, and you may just want to relax at night sipping on a glass of wine.
But due to rising global temperatures, up to 70 percent of the world’s suitable wine regions are on track to become too warm for production. This includes iconic wine regions in Spain, Italy, Greece, and Southern California.
Climate change is already altering the very essence of wine. Grape harvests are occurring earlier, impacting flavor profiles and quality. The increased risk of droughts and wildfires caused by climate change also threatens year-to-year harvests and overall wine quality, particularly in the California wine region.
At this rate, the future of wine looks bleak: the impact of climate change will mean a higher price point and lower quality product for wine connoisseurs around the world.
But it's not only about protecting the quality and quantity of wine. It's also about preserving the livelihoods of countless individuals who depend on the wine industry for their income, as well as the ecosystems that sustain these vineyards.
