This time four years ago, when People For launched our Enough of Trump campaign, things were truly dire. The pandemic was in full swing, Donald Trump seemed poised to win a second term, and an overwhelming sense of uncertainty hung over the entire country.
Now, four years later, while the state of the nation has improved in many ways, the threats facing our democracy and our fundamental freedoms have never been more serious. Trump is ahead in polls in some of the most critical states for determining the outcome of the presidential election, and is doing all he can to evade the serious legal consequences he faces in four separate criminal cases against him. Meanwhile, abortion bans and other far-right policy priorities that restrict our rights are becoming law in GOP-controlled states, where these policies impact the lives of millions.
That’s why it’s so important that we’re doing this again: through our new campaign Artists For Democracy 2024, we will be placing artist-designed billboards in the most critical battleground states, with messages that cut through the noise and reach people in a way that only art can, to fight for our democracy and our fundamental freedoms. This election will likely be decided yet again by just a few thousand votes in the exact locations where we will be placing our artwork. In 2020 our billboards were seen by millions of people, serving each time as a powerful visual reminder of why they must get out and vote.
