Last week, Governor Youngkin vetoed my bill aimed at protecting out-of-state patients who receive abortions in Virginia and the healthcare professionals who provide those procedures. This anti-extradition bill would have made it clear that Virginia will not cooperate with other states like Texas or Alabama in their draconian attempts to criminalize women’s health.
But Governor Youngkin refused to ensure this protection and peace of mind for healthcare providers in Virginia and the women who come to Virginia to seek abortions.
Conservatives warned that this bill would make Virginia a “safe haven” for abortion. That’s a good thing.Virginia is now the only state in the South without any post-Roe restrictions, and our Southern neighbors rely on us for this life-saving healthcare. We cannot afford to go backwards. Donate now to help me communicate to voters about Governor Youngkin’s extremist, anti-choice agenda. Any size donation is appreciated.
Make no mistake about it: Governor Youngkin and MAGA Republicans want Virginia to join the rest of the South and criminalize abortion. Just this year, a Republican lawmaker put forth a bill to ban abortion in Virginia, with no exceptions for rape or incest.
The only thing standing between our dignity and bodily autonomy and this dystopian level of government overreach is our Democratic majorities in the General Assembly.
