Learn more about what my office has been up to this week Dear john, This week, the Biden-Harris Administration announced a new regulation that will expand federal background checks, requiring anyone engaged in the business of selling guns at a profit to register as a federally licensed firearms dealer. This new rule will require sellers to run background criminal and mental health checks on potential buyers, making our communities safer. Announcements like this are why I fought so hard for the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, so we can continue taking meaningful steps toward ending gun violence in America. On Monday, I was honored to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new U.S. Soccer National Training Center & Headquarters. This new facility is estimated to create 440 new jobs through a $228 million investment. I was proud to help advocate for this facility's relocation to metropolitan Atlanta, and I look forward to seeing how U.S. Soccer will foster opportunities to grow the game and promote international friendship and cooperation ahead of the 2026 World Cup, when Atlanta will host eight matches. McBath stands with U.S. Soccer CEO JT Batson (left) and President Cindy Parlow Cone (right) This week, the House voted to pass the bipartisan Stronger Workforce for America Act (H.R.6655), legislation that makes critical updates to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) to increase the amount of skills development provided under the law, strengthen connections between employers and the workforce system, and put more Americans on the pathway to a successful career. I was thrilled that three bills that I led were incorporated in the final passage of this legislation--to learn more about these provisions and the full legislative package, please click here. On Thursday, I was proud to announce that legislation led by myself and my colleague Rep. Kelly Armstrong was marked up and approved by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on a bipartisan vote of 41-1 by the Committee. The Federal Prison Oversight Act establishes new, independent oversight of the Federal Bureau of Prisons--Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff helps lead the companion bill in the Senate. We must put meaningful accountability measures in place so that incarcerated Americans do not fear death when they enter our Federal prison system and correctional officers to not fear for their safety in the workplace.
