John --
In addition to our nationwide efforts, Black Lives Matter chapters across the country have found unique and innovative ways to stay connected and get involved during the coronavirus pandemic.
In Indiana, our South Bend chapter has been working on a virtual town hall series, which consists of Zoom calls every Thursday night -- and kicks off next week at 7:30 p.m. ET with featured speaker Dr. Mark D. Fox, a St. Joseph County Deputy Health Officer.
This town hall will consist of a live discussion and Q&A that addresses the impact of COVID-19 on low-income communities and communities of color in the South Bend area. But, the town hall is open to anyone, regardless of location -- and we encourage everyone to dial in.
If you’re interested, please RSVP for the event here.
In addition to hosting their town hall series, Black Lives Matter South Bend is also working hard on a digital campaign to increase Black voter engagement.
Due to the coronavirus, the Indiana primary election has been pushed back to Tuesday, June 2nd. We all know that this election will be crucial for our most vulnerable communities and are joining our chapters in encouraging as many Black voters as possible to vote early and vote by mail in order to stay safe and healthy.
Also, St. Joseph County recently adopted voting centers, which will replace traditional polling places and allow voters to cast their ballots at any voting center in the county.
BLM South Bend is educating Black voters across the county and making sure their voices are heard. Join their mission, and chip in to help their digital campaign reach Black voters today.
For those of you not local to the South Bend region, you can find out about voting options in your area at
vote.org.
We hope to see you at the town hall next Thursday. In the meantime, stay safe, and take care of one another.
In love and solidarity,
Black Lives Matter Network Action Fund
Black Lives Matter South Bend is our city-based chapter affiliated with the Black Lives Matter Global Network. We formed in the fall of 2016 following a federal grand jury decision to award a local Black family only $18 after White officers violated their civil rights. Together, we work for the validity and liberation of Black life.
