Here at No Dem Left Behind, we know how vital rural voters are, and we’re determined to turn America blue. The Midwest is one of the backbones of this country, but **conservative immigration policies are posing a threat to the stability of our rural economies**.
As of January 1st, 2024, the Midwest leads the nation with a job vacancy rate of 5.7%. This is the highest percentage of job vacancies out of any region in the United States, totalling around 2,020 jobs that need to be filled across the region.
Some of the states that hold the highest job vacancy percentages are vital parts of the Midwest, including Montana, Michigan, and Missouri.
Several occupations are responsible for this increase in job vacancies. **Agriculture and manufacturing stand out in this regard, accounting for a combined 1,315 job vacancies.** These are not just numbers; they represent thousands of opportunities crucial for the region's workforce.
Something important to note is that traditionally Conservative states in the midwest have seen an increase of 3.70% in job vacancies over the last decade.
So, what could be driving these negative trends in the Midwest job market? The root cause lies in our immigration system.
**Experts point to the lack of a robust immigration system as a key factor.** The Midwest, known for its manufacturing and agriculture sectors, relies heavily on immigrant labor. However, ongoing debates and delays in immigration reform have been hindering the region's economic growth.
We have an asylum backlog of 3 million cases, not to mention the many legal immigrants who hope to build a future for themselves in U.S. **Rural America needs new workers, and we have so many people who are desperate for a better job and better life. **
