Abortion Access is Under Attack: Make A Contribution Towards Our
Reproductive Justice Movement!

Dear Friend,

Abortion access is under attack, but we are fighting back! Earlier this
week, the Arizona Supreme Court reinstated a 160-year-old near-total
abortion ban, dating back to 1864—before Arizona even became a state, let
alone allowed women to vote! [ [link removed] ] Adding to the chaos that is our reality,
last week, Florida's highest court approved a law that bans abortions
after only six weeks of pregnancy. [ [link removed] ] And in less than two weeks, the
same Supreme Court majority that overturned Roe v. Wade will determine if
Idaho’s almost complete ban on abortion is stronger than federal law aka,
the Emergency Medical and Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). [ [link removed] ]

Most people who seek abortions are already moms. While more and more
states are making it increasingly difficult for people to access abortion
care, many of these states do not have an adequate care infrastructure,
paid family leave, access to affordable childcare, or an equitable
maternal healthcare system. [ [link removed] ] The irony of it all.

[1]With your contribution to our movement for reproductive justice, we
will continue to advocate for mothers, parents, and all birthing people
who need access to reproductive healthcare across the county!

Here’s what’s happening!

* Arizona - The most recent ruling seeks to criminalize providers and
severely restrict access to abortion services, leaving only narrow
exceptions for cases deemed "necessary" to save a pregnant person's
life.
* Florida - Florida’s Supreme Court approved a law that bans abortions
after only 6 weeks of pregnancy (before most people even know they’re
pregnant), making it extremely difficult for people in the state to
receive abortion care.
* EMTALA - It’s crucial for the federal Emergency Medical and Treatment
Labor Act (EMTALA) protocol to remain in place. EMTALA would serve as
a safety net for those facing a medical emergency. It will ensure that
hospitals won’t turn away patients in need of an emergency abortion,
even if the state they live in has a ban, and regardless of their
financial situation or legal status.

These abortion bans and attacks on emergency care are leading us towards
an increasing number of maternal care deserts. Research shows that from
Louisiana to Oklahoma to Texas to Idaho and beyond, pregnant patients are
facing delays and denials of basic healthcare, while clinicians operate in
a climate of fear, forced to choose between following medical standards of
care and obeying unjust laws. [ [link removed] ] Additionally, a 2023 study by the Gender
Equity Policy Institute reported that women living in states that ban
abortion are three times more likely to die during pregnancy or childbirth
than women who don’t have to contend with restrictions. [ [link removed] ]

[2]Please stand with us in this critical moment. Your contribution, no
matter the size, will make a difference in the lives of countless
individuals in need.

Much like Arizona, the majority of states with current abortion-bans do
not have capacity to support its own patients because options were already
limited, especially after the protections of Roe were stripped. Clinics
and providers are facing major challenges right now, with longer wait
times due to understaffing and a surge in patients coming in from states
like Texas, where a 6-week ban is in effect.

We refuse to accept a reality where people are denied the right to make
decisions about their own bodies and futures. Your donation today will
directly contribute to our efforts to challenge these discriminatory laws,
provide legal assistance to those affected, and advocate for policies that
uphold reproductive rights for all. [3]With your continued support, we
will keep fighting until every person has the freedom to exercise autonomy
over their reproductive health.

Together,

Diarra, and the whole MomsRising.org & MamásConPoder Team
