DocGo?
More like DocGONE.
John, this week the Adams Administration announced that it’s cutting ties with controversial vendor DocGo after my repeated warnings. This is a BIG win for New York City taxpayers.
Here’s a concise rundown of how it all happened:
- Last fall, my office reviewed the City’s exorbitantly-priced $432 million no-bid contract with DocGo. We identified many red flags — starting with the fact that DocGo is a medical services vendor, NOT a housing, social services, or legal services provider — the very services it was hired to provide to asylum seekers.
- In September, we rejected the DocGo contract and initiated a real-time audit. The Adams Administration proceeded with the contract despite our objections.
- Over the next several months, my office continued to voice concerns, highlighting issues such as DocGo’s inflated financial value, interference with law enforcement, and workplace violations. We found little basis for why DocGo was the best contractor for this job, or how the pricey $432 million contract was reached.
- Finally, after mounting pressure, the Adams Administration announced it would move away from DocGo.

I’m relieved that the Adams Administration heeded my advice. Nonetheless, the haphazard management of the DocGo contract exemplifies the need for more compassionate, common sense management in New York City.
Which is why I need to ask:
Can you make a one-time contribution to support my work as New York City Comptroller? I’m doing everything I can to ensure that our City is running efficiently and that money is being spent prudently — but I can’t do it without your help.

P.S. Instead of Mayor Adams’ cruel shelter eviction policy, we should focus on the legal services and workforce development that helps immigrants get on their feet, move out of shelter, and find employment. This is by far the quickest, most cost-effective, and most compassionate approach that treats asylum seekers with dignity.
