Education Policy Omnibus
Last night for nearly 4 hours we debated the Education Policy Omnibus bill on the house floor. Of the many amendments we brought forward, one was a repeal of the ethnic studies mandate that will create division among our students if these proposed standards are not removed. Radical activists in Saint Paul are attempting to impose their tilted worldview on everyone. This mandate would exacerbate existing divides among students and worsen educational outcomes by politicizing learning environments and diverting focus from core subjects. Enforcing this specific curriculum will stifle critical thinking and academic freedom, limiting students' exposure to diverse viewpoints and hindering their ability to engage in nuanced discussions.
 This bill should be focusing on the abysmal test scores schools across the state are seeing. The reading comprehension scores reveal that less than 50% of students are at the appropriate grade level. This is not just a statistic; it is a reflection of a systemic issue that hinders our children?s educational growth and their future prospects. Reading is the cornerstone of all learning, and these figures suggest a significant number of our students are being left behind. We must not accept this as the norm; our children deserve better. They deserve an education system that equips them with the essential skills they need to thrive in the world.

Another Partisan Elections Bill
It had been a long-standing tradition that the elections bill each year would be co-authored by the chair and minority lead containing only changes that had wide bipartisan support. In the past few years of total democrat control that tradition has been lost in favor of highly partisan legislation that ignores any and all concerns of the Republican members of the committee. One of the most egregious changes coming in the bill is the address needed to register. Instead of a verified postal address, potential voters could simply describe the location; for example ?the shed on 3rd street.? This pushes Minnesota in the exact opposite direction of Voter ID and more secured elections.
