This week in Washington... Washington, D.C. - After getting back to Washington, I met with North Texans from the Alzheimer's Association. I appreciate the work they do for the individuals and families impacted by this terrible disease. Then, I had a great meeting with North Texas dental students from the American Dental Association! I was glad to speak with our future health professionals and learn more about their goals. Later, I enjoyed visiting with 8th graders from the Providence Christian School of Texas. I’m glad I was able to chat with these bright students during their trip to our nation’s capital. On Wednesday, I joined my House Committee on Small Business colleagues for a hearing where we examined the burdensome impact of our tax code. I'm working to restore provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act which returned money to our job creators and working families. Then, I had a meeting with Texans from the Economic Alliance Houston Port Region. We had a productive discussion about workforce development in Texas. Later, I saw familiar faces from the North Texas Commission. As North Texas continues to grow and thrive, I’m grateful for the work the North Texas Commission does to support our communities. Thursday, I met with Anika Gopal, this year's winner of the Congressional App Challenge in Texas-24. I enjoyed hosting her in Washington and was glad that her hard work could be celebrated at the Capitol. I met with the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas to discuss important issues facing small businesses. Through my work on the House Committee on Small Business. I’m working to uplift our nation’s small businesses and job creators. On Thursday and Friday, I hosted over 100 North Texas students and families for the Elementary School Fly-In. I enjoyed getting to show everyone the Capitol and other historic spots in Washington. You can read more about the fly-in below. Texas-24 Work of the Week I was glad to host our office’s first Elementary School Fly-In this week! I enjoyed getting to spend time with the North Texas families who were in D.C. and provide them personalized, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this incredible event! Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is Leticia Ferrer! She’s spent her whole life chasing eclipses but this week she didn’t have to go any further than home to lead a project to collect data on the total eclipse. I appreciate her scientific research and commitment to our community! Rep. Van Duyne in the News Watch Rep. Van Duyne on Spectrum News Watch Rep. Van Duyne on the Crude Truth Rep.
