Dear Neighbor,

?

Spring is finally here! I hope you?re able to enjoy the nice weather. Here?s a quick update from the State Capitol.?

Supplemental budget framework announced

On March 22, Governor Tim Walz, Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy, and I announced a joint agreement on a supplemental budget framework.?

?

Last year?s budget made historic investments in the areas Minnesotans across the state value and care about most like education, health care, and economic security. While this is not a budget session, our supplemental budget agreement makes needed short-term investments, builds on the work done last session, and maintains the state?s fiscal stability. DFLers will continue working to build a Minnesota that works better for everyone, where every Minnesotan has the opportunity to succeed and build a better life.

The full agreement can be found here [ [link removed] ].

Policy bills passing off the House floor

We?ve entered the phase of session with more floor action and policy bills passing off the House floor. Here are a few highlights.

?

*Labor Policy*

Labor Policy Bill

House DFLers are committed to making Minnesota the best state for workers. We?re building upon last year?s transformative package of worker protections ? including Earned Sick and Safe Time and Paid Family and Medical Leave ? with our Labor Policy [ [link removed] ] bill. The legislation enhances worker protections, strengthens the minimum wage, bans shadow non-compete agreements, increases pay transparency, and more.

?

*Elections Policy*

Elections Policy Bill

Every eligible Minnesotan deserves the opportunity to participate in our democratic process. The House has passed the Elections Policy bill [ [link removed] ], which expands voter access, improves election transparency, and strengthens disclosure requirements for those seeking to influence elections. The legislation expands availability for absentee ballots, improves access to voting for college students, and strengthens a measure lawmakers passed last year to prohibit the use of AI-generated ?deep fakes.? Notably, the bill includes the Minnesota Voting Rights Act, which aims to reinstate rights federal courts stripped away from Minnesotans last fall and protect voters from discriminatory voter suppression tactics.

?

*Eliminating hidden, deceptive fees*

Junk fees

Deceptive, hidden "junk" fees cost the average Minnesota family $3,000 per year. These fees are added on the price of everything from restaurant meals, to event tickets, to hotel reservations, and more with no value. House Democrats are cracking down [ [link removed] ] on these nuisance fees through legislation requiring upfront, ?all-in? pricing.

Reminder: tax savings available

In last year?s Tax Bill, Democrats worked hard to deliver tax reforms that will benefit the economic outcome of families, seniors, and working class Minnesotans. Here are some of the new tax changes Minnesotans can take advantage of this tax season. Changes include a nation-leading Child Tax Credit up to $1,750 per dependent, a simplified Property Tax Refund, eliminating the tax on Social Security income for those earning less than $100,000 annually (married/joint) or $78,000 (single/head of household), and more.?

Minnesota Values Project Survey

The 2023 Legislative Session was the most productive session in 50 years, with significant progress made on the issues Minnesotans across the state value. I?d like your thoughts on the future of our great state and invite you to take our Minnesota Values Project (MVP) survey. MVP is a partnership between Minnesotans and elected officials to create a shared vision for the future of our state.

You can complete the survey here [ [link removed] ].
