Democracy Summer has been the heart and soul of my political campaigns since my very first campaign when we figured out a way to get young people—including my three kids and a dozen nieces and nephews—involved through a mixture of politics, academics and pure fun.

Today, our renowned fellowship program teaches high school and college-aged Democrats not only state-of-the-art tactics in voter registration and political organizing but the dynamic history of political change in America and essential lessons today for becoming an effective political leader.

Three years ago Democracy Summer expanded nationwide in an historic partnership with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. In 2022 and 2023, over 100 Partner Campaigns joined Democracy Summer and recruited more than 1,000 college and high school students in 38 states to participate in a full-blown pro-democracy, pro-voting rights curriculum and an exciting summer of on-the-ground organizing, with voter registration, door knocking, phone banks, rallies and political events.
