John, The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was first introduced in Congress in 1923. For more than 100 years, we’ve been pushing and advocating for equal rights to be guaranteed for all people, regardless of sex or gender identity. …Meaning the ERA is older than: 🚦Traffic Signals 💊Antibiotics 🖊️Ballpoint Pens 💻Computers In 2017, 2018, and 2020, Nevada, Illinois, and Virginia became the last states needed—and the first in over 40 years—to ratify the ERA. But the ERA’s ratification was blocked by the Trump Administration in 2020 and held up in litigation over an arbitrary deadline that Congress passed in 1978. But make no mistake: there can be no deadline for achieving our full constitutional gender equality. Now, Congress has the opportunity to certify the ERA, and send it to the archivist to publish it as the 28th Amendment.
