Friend,

Mr. Rogers once told a story that many of us reach back to in these moments: "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'"

And I look around and see so many helpers: health care workers such as doctors, nurses, paramedics, and nursing assistants; grocery store employees; police officers; firefighters; janitors; and more -- helping and doing all they can to keep our communities safe. It's an incredible thing to behold and an incredible sacrifice.

Today, I just wanted to say: Thank you. Whether you're a front-line worker yourself or a family member or friend who is supporting them from afar, you are helping us take care of each other in ways we don't even fully realize yet. When this is over -- and it will be over, someday soon -- you all will be the heroes the history books remember.

Thank you for your sacrifice, and thank you for your service.
