Hi John -

In 7 days, we are kicking off our fight against utility companies across
the country. This is a critical part of the fight for climate justice.

But our work extends across borders and institutions — and there’s a big
moment coming up for our global climate movement.

The world’s most important climate talks (COP29) will be hosted and led by
Azerbaijan this year. Unbelievably, they’ve just appointed the country’s
biggest oil boss to help run the conference!

Having an oil baron at the steering wheel could derail these negotiations.
But nothing is set in stone yet.

The Azerbaijani Government is hoping to use COP29 to polish its global
image. A huge public outcry could help change their minds.

That's why we're [ [link removed] ]sending a public letter, signed by over 150
organizations, to this year's COP29 President, calling on him to kick the
oil baron off the committee. Will you add your name too?

Fossil fuel executives have spent decades trying to sabotage and delay
climate action.^1

Getting the Azerbaijani state oil company boss to help organize climate
talks undermines the whole process. It’s a huge conflict of interest.

The Government is still putting together the team to lead the talks, so
now is the time to act.

If we can add thousands of signatures from people across the world, it’ll
be almost impossible for the COP29 President to ignore it.

Last month, global warming exceeded temperatures of 1.5° Celsius for a
year.^2

We must fight for every tenth of a degree — and that means we need every
international climate meeting to make a difference.

[ [link removed] ]John, will
you sign the open letter and ask the President to stop the oil industry
hijacking these critical climate talks?

Onwards,

Team 350
