Trump administration threatens our health No images? Click here John, As the devastating COVID-19 pandemic impacts communities across the globe, the Trump administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) just announced a “sweeping suspension of its enforcement of environmental laws,” which prioritizes polluters over public health. And, at the same time they are working to suspend laws, they are also moving aggressively forward with rolling back critical environmental protections. With an unprecedented public health and economic crisis underway at the local, state, and federal levels, we must prioritize protecting people, not provide a clear giveaway to corporate polluters. Take action now: Tell Congress to hold corporate polluters accountable and protect public health. The Trump administration’s decision to roll back environmental laws further threatens the health of our environment and communities across the country, especially low-income communities and communities of color bearing the burden of industrial pollution and COVID-19 impacts. From rolling back key vehicle efficiency standards to reducing our ability to protect communities against water pollution, the Trump administration is setting a dangerous precedent. While the Washington State Department of Ecology’s permit authority remains unchanged, the Trump administration rollbacks could mean more pollution from federal facilities across our state. Join us in demanding Congress to prioritize public health, not help polluting industries. As governments struggle to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, polluters are identifying an opportunity to break free from protections that safeguard our health and environment. They are trying to escape their responsibilities under environmental laws and seeking taxpayer dollars to support their operations. While there is so much to do to respond to this crisis, staying strong against rollbacks and increases in pollution is, unfortunately, on the list. Thank you for taking action for healthy communities and a healthy environment. Onward, Lisa Remlinger |
