We don’t normally think about Elton John, Bernie Taupin, and Metallica as having anything to do with each other, musically or otherwise. But, incredibly, the U.S. Library of Congress does and the result was amazing. Last month in Washington, PBS taped a two-hour special honoring John and Taupin called “Elton John & Bernie Taupin: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.” The show is now streaming on PBS. Watching Metallica cover “Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding” is not something that I ever imagined I would be doing—but I’m so glad that someone thought of Metallica for this
